Welcome to our Youth page! We have created this web page to help youth find good information about self-injury and to understand more about how it relates to them. As you scroll down, you will find many helpful websites and resources about self-injury. We have reviewed them all for you, and tried to give you a sense of what they are about beside each link.

We highly recommend that you talk with a trusted person and consider getting professional help if you are unable to stop self-injuring and/or feel distressed.

 

The National Children's Bureau, based in the UK, has a website about Young People and Self-Harm. The link on the right will give you some good general information about self-injury. On this site, you will also find resources for self-help.

Once you are on the site, click on the 'Your Section' link on the left-hand link bar to read poetry and stories by youth.

 

The Canadian Mental Health Association website has a section about youth and self-injury. Here you will find information about:

what self-injury is,
why people self-injure,
warning signs and
what you can do to stop

Don’t miss the links on the right-hand side of the page, which will take you to more websites with info about self-injury.

 

You’ll find the LifeSIGNS website easy to navigate, with lots of helpful information about self-injury and suggestions on how to get help.

The group, and their website, is run by Directors and Supporters in the UK who have personal experience with self-injury.

 

Life can be stressful! The American Psychological Association has a site that gives suggestions to help build resilience or better coping skills for life stress.

On this page you’ll find a link to '10 Tips to Build Resilience'.

 

Mind Your Mind is a website for youth by youth, and it was created as a place where you can get information, resources and the tools to help you manage stress, crisis and mental health problems.

Through this website you can also connect with counsellors and other youth. Click HERE to visit a great resource with suggestions on how to get started with getting counselling and what you can expect from it.

The Mind Your Mind website has links to Crisis Lines and Centres in Canada and the United States.

 

It can be hard to tell someone that you are having difficulties. Here is a good link to suggestions that will help you prepare how to tell someone.

This link will take you to the website of the Teen Health Centre in Windsor, Ontario in Canada. On this site you’ll also find information about how to stop self-injuring, and myths about self-injury.
